Is It Time to Replace Your Carpet?

Or can you clean it one more time?

Is it time to replace your carpet? How do you know? What type of carpet should you put in your home?

Carpet looking beyond saving with a good professional cleaning. Thinking it might be time to replace it with new carpets and its been awhile since you carpet shopped. First be prepared for sticker price shock and for a lot of choices.

My recommendations here are my opinion based on which carpets I like to clean and that seem to clean up the best and wear the best.  This is not based on a scientific study with proven facts. That disclaimer made these are my suggestions:

1. Avoid Olefin based carpets, especially if you have high traffic areas. These carpets are made from an oil base product and even though you can use bleach on them to clean them they are hard to get clean looking. Your traffic areas will look bad.

2. Stay with a good Nylon carpet. These carpets will last for years and clean up pretty good.

3. Choose a good pad.

Remember all carpets need maintenance, if you don't vacuum and clean your carpets regularly don't expect them to last for long. A good carpet should last for 15 to 20 years, obviously traffic patterns would effect this length.

Thinking about replacing your carpet with hard surfaces such as tile or hardwood read this article.
